Woodes
Through a discography that spans five years of unique releases, Woodes has refined her sound into one of Australia’s most captivating, creating universes with each release that intertwine her love for music, visual art, fashion and beyond. She signed to Universal Music Publishing Group after her 2016 self-titled debut EP charted internationally. Woodes has toured with Thelma Plum, Asgier, Sylvan Esso, and multiple festivals including Splendour in the Grass, SXSW & Beyond the Valley, amongst headline tours of her own. Her cinematic 2018 EP Golden Hour spawned two triple j favourites ‘Dots’ and ‘Run For It’, both arriving on the back of the hugely popular collaboration with Set Mo - ‘I Belong Here’ - which has been certified Platinum in Australia. She’s also had successful collaborations with Cosmos Midnight, Feki, Kilter and Golden Vessel.
In her own work throughout this time, Woodes continues to merge music and fashion, incorporating her stylistic influences into her music and the worlds she builds around it. In music videos, she conceptualized how to bring stories of life and on the live stage, she found herself being compared to contemporaries such as Bjork and AURORA through her larger-than-life costume design. Having modelled for clients such as Chanel, David Jones & Myer - her styling and presentation has become as renowned as something that goes hand-in-hand with each release. She has also found herself on television screens with her music being picked up for television soundtracks – the Netflix series ‘Tidelands’ used Golden Hour’s opening track ‘Hunger’ as its official trailer soundtrack and US network TV series ‘The Bold Type’ used recent single ‘This Is My Year’ to soundtrack one of its episode climaxes in season four.
Woodes’ first album ‘Crystal Ball’ came out at the end of 2020, getting 4 star reviews from NME & charting at #3 in the Australian Independent Album Charts. ‘How Long I’d Wait’ was added to high rotation & fan-favourite ‘Close’ was named as one of Youtube’s Top Aussie Songs of 2020, amassing 130,000 views on her Youtube. To coincide with the album release, Woodes & her fans created her album song-for-song in Minecraft, the world’s best-selling video game. This was noted by Mojang, the creators of Minecraft as a world first & they launched Woodes’ Crystal Ball project to Minecrafts official social platforms (+12 million) in November alongside the album’s release.
2021 has seen Woodes release a new duo project ‘Tornado Club’ with fellow Platinum-songwriter, The Kite String Tangle. The 6-track release was produced and written by the duo remotely & was debuted live at Riverstage in Brisbane supporting The Avalanches.
