At the 19th annual SESAC Pop Awards held in NYC last night, Universal Music Publishing Group won Publisher of the Year, and artist/writer and producer Jimmy “Napes” Napier captured top honors including the coveted Songwriter of the Year award. Napier and another UMP UK songwriter William Phillips (aka Tourist) were also honored with the Song of the Year for their massive hit, “Stay With Me,” as recorded by Sam Smith.
Napier enjoyed an incredible year with the success of “Stay With Me.” Recorded by British singing sensation Sam Smith, the song topped the charts and won the GRAMMY Award for Song of the Year. Napier also scored big hits with Smith on “I’m Not The Only One,” “Latch” by Disclosure feat. Sam Smith, and “La La La” by Naughty Boy feat. Sam Smith. On top of his many successful collaborations with Smith, Napier co-wrote the hit “Rather Be” by Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne as well.
In addition to Napier, UMPG writer London On Da Track also received SESAC awards for the songs “Lifestyle” and “About the Money.”
