MIAMI BEACH, FL - Universal Music Publishing Group is proud to announce the company has a publishing interest related to 19 award wins at the 16th annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, which was televised last night from Las Vegas.
Evan Lamberg, UMPG President – North America, said: “This year’s Latin Grammy Awards were wonderful. It’s a real testament to everyone at Universal Music Publishing Group Latin worldwide that they continue to have the best creative vision and work with the greatest songwriters and artists in the world.”
UMPG Mexico writer Natalia Lafourcade was the night’s big winner, taking home awards in five of the six categories in which she was nominated, including wins for Song of the Year and Record of the Year for “Hasta La Raíz.” Lafourcade co-wrote the song with fellow UMPG Mexico singer/songwriter Leonel García, who also received the two awards.
Tropical music icon Juan Luis Guerra took three awards including the prestigious Album of the Year award for Todo Tiene Su Hora. Guerra has won seventeen Latin GRAMMYs to date.
Latin superstar and UMPG artist J Balvin opened the show with his latest Billboard chart-topper “Ginza,” and later received his first-ever Latin GRAMMY for Best Urban Song for “Ay Vamos.”
UMPG artist and writer Juanes, the top male solo Latin GRAMMY winner of all time, earned his 21st Latin GRAMMY Award for Best Long Form Music Video for “Loco De Amor – La Historia.”
Alejandro Sanz won Best Contemporary Pop Vocal Album for “Sirope.” It’s his 17th Latin GRAMMY win, making him tied with Juan Luis Guerra for the second most wins by a male solo artist.
Acclaimed musical legend and actor Ruben Blades won his second Best Salsa Album award for “Son de Panamá.”
Alex Cuba won for Best Singer-Songwriter album for “Healer.”
