Universal Music Publishing Australia has signed a global music publishing deal with rising Melbourne artist/producer Woodes, it was announced today by Andrew Jenkins, President of Universal Music publishing Australasia, and Arwen Curson, VP Creative of Universal Music Publishing Australia and New Zealand.
Woodes’ self titled EP, featured on Rolling Stone, Indie Shuffle and Pigeons and Planes, debuted in the top 20 iTunes charts in 6 countries including an impressive #1 on the Singapore Alternative Album Charts, and has since ticked over 1.5 million streams online.
In making the announcement, Curson said “Woodes is an undeniably talented and driven writer and we are absolutely thrilled to welcome her into the Universal Publishing family. It’s really refreshing to work with someone with such a precise vision of the artist they are going to be."
Acclaimed single "The Thaw" was added to high rotation across Australian radio and amassed an impressive amount of attention on top blogs across the world including Indie Shuffle, Rolling Stone, Pigeons and Planes and US actress Emma Roberts - who tweeted the track to her 3.8 million followers. Woodes was also featured in Indie Shuffle's Top Female Vocalists of 2016.
Following intensive touring around Australia supporting sold out shows with Montaigne, Dustin Tebbutt, Ngaiire and SHURA, Woodes was also selected to perform at the Beyond the Valley festival, winning the triple j unearthed competition and has just been announced on the official SXSW line-up for 2017.
On the signing Woodes said, "I’m so proud and grateful to be working with the Universal Publishing Group. At the core of why I do music, I love songwriting and working with other people, as I thoroughly enjoy the problem solving aspect of writing and collaboratively working with others. I’ve been a writer for many years, the Woodes project was a branch off of that once I began forming everything together my own production and creative direction. My early passion and curiosity in music stemmed from hearing music in media such as TV shows, films and advertising. It’s where I found many of my favourite artists such as Imogen Heap, who was an early hero that inspired me to start to produce and pick up a microphone to record my ideas. I’ve always found the world of music placement fascinating. This new chapter is something I’ve been working towards for so many years and I feel at home with the Universal Publishing Group."
Woodes joins a UMP Australia roster that includes JOY., Alex The Astronaut, Thief, Peking Duk, Timmy Trumpet, The Veronicas, M-Phazes, Gang Of Youths, Jonti, KLP, Sons Of The East, Bag Raiders, Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, Cosmos Midnight and many more.
