Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), a leading global music publishing company, today announced the signing of global pop phenomenon Billie Eilish to an exclusive co-publishing deal.
16-year-old singer-songwriter Eilish (Darkroom/Interscope Records) has become one of music’s fastest-rising superstars. Her debut EP “dont smile at me” was released in 2017 to critical acclaim and has surpassed 2.5 billion streams worldwide. She has earned two RIAA Platinum certifications in North America: for debut single “ocean eyes" which she released at just 14-years-old; and “lovely (with Khalid)” which was featured in the cult favorite show “13 Reasons Why: Season 2.” Eilish’s hit track “you should see me in a crown” garnered more than a million combined streams in the first 24 hours upon release.
"I am really excited to work with Jody, Luke, and the team at Universal. I am so grateful for all of their amazing support and opportunities,” said Eilish.
“A talented songwriter who is beyond her years, there is no doubt that Billie is already a powerful voice for her generation. Her expressive songs are an outpouring of honest and raw emotion, and her truth in music resonates with fans around the world,” said UMPG Chairman and CEO Jody Gerson. “With the guidance of UMPG A&R Luke McGrellis and support of the UMPG global team, I am confident that we will be an outstanding creative partner for Billie as she continues to rise.”
Added Gerson: “In supporting Eilish, we are pleased to be working with Justin Lubliner from Darkroom, as well as John Janick and the fantastic Interscope team.”
Eilish’s latest single, ‘when the party’s over’ (written by her brother Finneas O’Connell), peaked at #1 on Apple Music and iTunes Alt charts, was the #1 most played song on Beats1 Radio this week and has amassed more than 92 million streams across digital platforms. Currently working on her debut album, Eilish is on her sold out North American tour ‘1 BY 1’.
