Steve Mac was presented with the Songwriter of the Year 2019 award, following 30 years at the forefront of songwriting, and a 2019 which saw him continue to top charts with a string of incredible releases, spending 31 weeks as the No1 Songwriter on the Billboard Dance/Electronic charts with Marshmello ft. Bastille ‘Happier.’

Accepting the award, Steve Mac said: “I just wanted to say a huge ‘thank you’ to the Ivors Academy for presenting me with the Songwriter of the Year award. This is just such an honour.”

Little Simz’s 2019 album ‘Grey Area’ was awarded the Ivor Novello for Best Album. Announcing the win, IDLES’ Joe Talbot said: “She shows off all of her skills in a very beautiful and interesting way”. Talking to Matt Wilkinson Little Simz said: “It just makes me want to continue to trust the process – it gives me more fire in my belly to make the next record and keep the fire burning.”

HBO’s Euphoria won the award for Best Television Soundtrack. Composer Labrinth called writing the soundtrack: “definitely one of the scariest challenges of my whole life, but one of the most worth it.”
