Today, Seinabo Sey releases her highly anticipated sophomore full-length album, I’m A Dream. Across these ten tracks, the critically acclaimed Swedish-Gambian songstress blurs borders between cultures and musical styles, forging an intersection of soul, R&B, pop, and indie threaded together by global ambition.
I’m A Dream sees Seinabo at her most poised, passionate and powerful. Following an extended stay in West Africa, Seinabo took the creative reigns and spearheaded I’m A Dream. She crafted songs around the issues of womanhood, feminism, identity and body positivity. The album is a triumph after what Seinabo describes as a challenging few years - "This time around it felt really important to make the story that I’m telling directly, and very, personal. Every song represents a part of my life from the past year and a bit".
I’m A Dream sees a clear development both lyrically and sonically from her debut album Pretend from 2015, with her current single 'Good In You', released August 24th, being no exception. The upbeat Janet Jackson inspired pop anthem demonstrates Seinabo’s versatility as both an artist and songwriter, and follows up on her critically acclaimed tracks form earlier this year; The edgy and soulful 'I Owe You Nothing', the sore and emotional 'Remember' featuring Jacob Banks, and the unforgettable and beautiful 'Breathe', which was all accompanied by stunning visuals shot in Gambia, and received instant praise across national and international media; "'Breathe' is a stunning track about what it means to be a black woman in white spaces," MTV claimed, while The Guardian stated, "She owes us nothing, but she gives us loads".
Close collaborator and producer MagnusTheMagnus helped her shape the sound of this new work together with Vargas & Lagola, Oskar Linnros and Carli. The lyrics have been crafted by Seinabo along with Isak Alverus.
Seinabo has recently announced a European tour in October to celebrate the release of I’m A Dream. The Swedish/Gambian vocal powerhouse will kick the tour off at Stockholm’s Ericsson Globe on 5th October to a massive 12,000 people. She will then make her way around several European cities including an already sold out London show on 21st November.
Seinabo rose to critical acclaim in 2015 following the release of two EPs and her debut album Pretend, which TIME magazine called "One of the Year’s Best Debut Albums" and SPIN named one of the Best Albums of 2015. Certified Gold in Sweden, Pretend earned her a 2015 Swedish Grammy Award for Best Newcomer and Best Pop award the following year.
