Elton John releases his new album ‘The Diving Board’ today, his first studio recording of all-new solo material since 2006’s ‘The Captain & The Kid’.
The album features a stripped back accompaniment of musicians – reminiscent of the albums that established his reputation back in the 1970s – with all the songs written by Elton John and his long term lyrical collaborator Bernie Taupin. 'The Diving Board' has echoes of the gospel, blues and country of the great American outdoors that always inspired them both. “It’s a very musical album” says Elton. “There’s a lot to take in. I’m not going to be chasing One Direction up the charts. I’m just making music I feel good about.”
Music Week notes that “quite simply, Elton has made his best album in more than a decade”, and Uncut even suggest it “may be the best LP of Elton John’s career”, whilst Clash magazine call 'The Diving Board' “impressive... reinforces Elton’s continuing creative renaissance.”
