In search of inspiration for his second album, Dotan retreated to the living room. Not just his own living room, the enigmatic singer-songwriter also visited the dens of complete strangers. The result is ‘7 Layers’, a magical album performed by a singular talent.

Humans are supposedly protected by seven microscopically thin layers of skin, which, on the album, Dotan is peeling off layer after layer in order to find his true identity as a person and musician.

“I was watching this documentary on the Discovery Channel on the human body, and they explained that our skin is made out of seven layers and this woman explained the further we get through the seven layers the closer we are to our core, I picked up my guitar straight away and wrote the song in about an hour. I threw it in the bin at first, because I couldn’t imagine putting it on a record and having my story up. Obviously, now it’s the title of the album and I play it every night, so that didn’t really work”.

‘7 Layers’ reached the Gold status in the Netherlands and Belgium. ‘Home’, the second single from the ‘7 Layers’ album, became #1 in the Dutch as well as in the Belgian charts, and achieved Double Platinum sales in both countries.

Dotan’s second album, ‘7 Layers’ has been released through Universal Music.
