“She took a flag and made a place in rock n roll for women.”
Janis Joplin is one of the most revered and iconic singers of all time, she electrified and thrilled millions of listeners with her powerful, soulful voice and blazed new creative trails before her death in 1971 at age just 27. With hits including ‘Mercedes Benz’ and ‘Move Over’ and classic albums such as ‘Pearl’, Joplin was one of the performers who embodied the musical and cultural revolution of the 1960's.
In 'Janis: Little Girl Blue', Oscar nominated Amy J. Berg ('West of Memphis') presents a moving, insightful portrait of the original rock chick Janis Joplin, a girl with a ferocious, soulful voice who broke into the male dominated music scene, whilst also grappling with her inner demons and addictions. Produced by Oscar winner Alex Gibney ('Taxi to the Darkside') and voiced by Chan Marshall (musician Cat Power), the film features wonderful archival footage alongside Janis’ personal correspondence and contemporary interviews.
'Janis: Little Girl Blue' is in selected cinemas across the Netherlands now.
