Alabama Shakes won three Grammy Awards last night at the 58th Grammy’s held at the Staples Centre in in Los Angeles. The band scooped the trophies for Best Alternative Music Album for their second album ‘Sound & Color’, as well as Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance for ‘Don’t Wanna Fight’.
‘Sound & Color’ also won a Grammy for ‘Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical)’ – awarded to Shawn Everett (engineer) and Bob Ludwig (mastering engineer).
Accepting the award for Best Rock Performance, lead singer Brittany Howard said: “I’ll tell you, my heart is beating a mile a minute… this is beautiful and I promise we’re going to keep going.”
During the awards ceremony the band took to the stage for a heartfelt and electrifying performance of their Grammy wining single.
‘Sound & Color’ was released in April 2015 and debuted at No. 1 in the US. It received rave reviews in the press, described as a “riveting, kaleidoscopic second album” by The Guardian and awarded 5 stars by The Telegraph who praised its "fierce new sound".
There was further success for international UMPG Artists and writers at last night's awards. 'Uptown Funk' by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars won Record of The Year; 'Where Are Ü Now' by Justin Bieber (along with Skrillex and Diplo) won Best Dance Recording, and D'Angelo won Best R&B album for 'Black Messiah' and Best R&B song for 'Really Love'.
