Remy van Kesteren will receive the Nederlandse Muziekprijs (Dutch Music Award), the most prestigious award offered to classical musicians by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science. The prize is awarded upon recommendation by the Advisory Committee Dutch Music Award, which is hosted by the Performing Arts Fund.
Van Kesteren will receive the award in Paradiso on June 1st, 2016. The award will be presented by minister Jet Bussemaker. After auditioning, candidates for the award are to follow a development program, receiving the award upon completion. Remy is the 28th musician to receive the award since its conception in 1981.
The committee's report states:
"Remy is a willful artist who performs at a high level, both technically and artistically. ... He surrounds himself with brilliant young like-minded musicians and manages to catch the interest of composers from a large variety of genres to compose music for his instrument. ... His approach to music has contributed to the emancipation of the harp. The harp is no longer a typical feminine instrument, just as Remy doesn't want to be a traditional musician. ... The committee sees him as a pioneer that makes music from an authentic artistic incentive, pushing musical boundaries while managing to consistently amaze people."
Following the award presentation, Remy will give a concert with, among others, songs from his new album 'Tomorrow Eyes'. For more information and tickets visit Paradiso's official website.
