UMPG signs Agnes

Swedish chart-topping icon Agnes has signed a global publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Scandinavia.

Perhaps you know Swedish singer-songwriter Agnes as the 16-year-old who lit up Swedish Idol in 2005, waltzing home with the crown? Or maybe you know her from 2008's effervescent dance-pop classic 'Release Me', a single that soared into the top 10 across Europe, shifting over 900,000 copies in the UK alone? Perhaps it's from 2012's experimental pop opus 'Veritas', with her vocals on lead single 'One Last Time' lauded as "liquid gold filling our ears"? Whichever iteration of Agnes' 15-year career caught your attention first, nothing is going to prepare you for what's coming next.

In June Agnes released 'I Trance' - the first single in six long years from vocal powerhouse, it took the listener down into a dank and sweaty night club, all pulsating, house-tinged beats and whispered vocals.

"I don't focus on what other people expect from me, it's more about me trying to be as pure as possible. I'm more comfortable now with knowing I don't need to put myself in a specific box. I try to be more in a space of 'I want to express this and how can I do that in the best way'."

"I Trance is all about not caring. I love going to clubs and not knowing where the night will end. On the dance floor everyone is equal and it's all about the here and now and just being. Trance is the tip of the iceberg of letting go and being free, even if it's just for a brief moment."

This theme continues through the pulsating, electropop swirl of Limelight, with the connection between both songs cemented by the fact they were both finished in Sweden alongside producers Vincent Pontare and Salem Al Fakir.

"Limelight's about how sometimes you want to do things perfectly and sometimes that's the last thing you should do. Don't be afraid to make mistakes."

Agnes creates pop music as it should be; without any rules.
