Coldplay cover for Chipotle wins at Cannes

An advert for US food chain Chipotle, featuring a Willie Nelson cover of Coldplay’s ‘The Scientist’, has won the most covetable award at this year’s Cannes Lions - The Film Grand Prix.

The touching advert, entitled ‘Back to the Start’, was created by filmmaker Johnny Kelly. It depicts the life of a farmer as he slowly turns his family farm into an industrial animal factory, before seeing the error of his ways and opting for a more sustainable future. Both the film and the soundtrack were commissioned by Chipotle to emphasise the importance of developing a sustainable food system.

Khai Meng Tham, chairman of the Cannes jury, said; “It was timeless with heart impact and gut impact... The jury just felt really strongly. Chipotle was so clearly the one everyone liked.”
