UK Voluntary Code of Good Practice on Transparency in Music Streaming

Ensuring that we account your royalties accurately, and on time, is a priority for us at Universal Music Publishing Group. We are constantly looking for ways to improve our processes and transparency is always the starting point.

We welcome the UK government's decision to publish - via the Intellectual Property Office - a UK Voluntary Code of Good Practice on Transparency in Music Streaming. The code, which UMPG played an important role in bringing into effect, was first announced on 31st January 2024 for implementation by 31st July 2024.   You can read the Code in full here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/uk-voluntary-code-of-good-practice-on-transparency-in-music-streaming

The Voluntary Code is a framework for minimum standards for good practice in reporting and tracking usage data and associated royalties for everyone involved in the music streaming industry in the United Kingdom.

The Code is intended to help support ever-better communications across the music industry and encourage all parties to be transparent when it comes to calculating and paying royalties.

We would like to assure you that UMPG is already adhering to all the key principles of the Code. For example, the statements we provide clearly show your royalties for the total number of streams in each period - broken down by track title, streaming service, payment model (e.g. subscription or ad-funded) and country.

Should you have any questions about the Code please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at UMPG_UK_Transparencycodeinfo@umusic.com and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.

Thank you,
