On Friday 28th September, Universal Publishing returned to Kinsale for the second annual showcase as part of the Sharks Festival, which celebrates and awards the best in advertising and creative.
After a triumphant first outing, featuring Rae Morris, Allman Brown, Louis Berry and Lisa Hannigan, this year saw a return to the iconic Spaniard Inn for performances from five exciting UMP signings.
Maisie Peters opened the event with her timeless pop songwriting showing why she is one of the most promising new artists in the country. Peters was followed by the intelligent quirkiness of Tom Rosenthal, who has already had a great deal of success in the sync world thanks to smile-inducing numbers such as "the best song you will hear about pasta" and more.
Fenne Lily then ran through a flawless set of deeply moving indie numbers, her band bringing increasingly powerful accompaniment to her haunting vocal performance. A stripped-back set from buzzy up-and-comers Easy Life came next, with the band's multi-talented frontman Murray leading the way with his soulful songwriting backed-up by intricate three-part harmony.
Midway through their tour with the mighty Shania Twain, widely decorated country duo The Shires closed proceedings at The Spaniard with a mixture of beautifully heartfelt ballads and rousing singalong numbers.
The live music didn't stop there though, as Easy Life went on to perform an incredible set at one of the classic Sharks Festival venues, Bacchus. Having shown the quality of their songs in the day's earlier performance, the packed late-night crowd were treated to the band's full setup, including funk-filled trumpet and saxophone party-pieces; the perfect, dance-floor soundtrack to a festival Friday.
Until next year!
