Lucius release their debut album ‘Wildewoman’ today.
The Brooklyn band’s sound combines pop melodies and girl group vocal harmonies with percussive post-punk power and stomping percussion. Lucius is fronted by Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig, whose impeccable soaring harmonies give their sound its unique flavor.
“We started singing in unison because we were always drawn to doubled vocals on recordings” Jess says. “We figured it couldn't hurt to try it in a live setting and it just felt like our voices were supposed to be sitting together - an automatic vocal kinship.”
Having won high praise in the US media when their album was released across the Atlantic at the end of last year (the Boston Globe called them “the most welcome addition to pop music this year”) they are swiftly winning over both fans and critics in the UK.
The Times award ‘Wildewoman’ 4 stars, noting that "the entire album brims with character and feeling". The Guardian position the band as "the missing link between Arcade Fire and Haim… How can they fail? They won’t”, whilst Line of Best Fit declare ‘Wildewoman’ “a truly terrific album".
