The nominees for the Brit Awards 2014 were announced yesterday, with songwriters and artists signed to Universal Music Publishing receiving an impressive eighteen nominations in total.
Bastille and Disclosure lead the way with four nominations each in the same categories: the prestigious British Album Of The Year (for ‘Bad Blood’ and ‘Settle’), British Group, British Breakthrough Act and British Single (for ‘Pompeii’ and ‘’White Noise’ - alongside AlunaGeorge).
On hearing the news, Bastille’s Dan Smith remarked; “We’re completely blown away by the four nominations! When we started the band we never thought we’d be recognised in such a way so the whole thing is an awesome surprise.”
Laura Mvula received two nominations, for British Breakthrough Act and British Female Solo Artist, whilst James Blake was nominated for British Male Solo Artist and Haim are up for International Group.
The Steve Booker co-written ‘Love Me Again’ by John Newman was nominated for British Single alongside Olly Murs ‘Dear Darlin’’, One Direction ‘One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks)’ (John O’Neill) and Naughty Boy feat. Sam Smith ‘La La La’ (James Napier).
Eminem and Justin Timberlake are both up for International Male Solo Artist.
The winners are to be announced at the O2 Arena on 19th February, and Bastille will be among the artists performing on the night.
