Klaxons are back with their third album ‘Love Frequency’, released through Akashic Rekords/Sony today.
Featuring the tracks ‘There Is No Other Time’, ‘Show Me A Miracle’, ‘Children Of The Sun’ and ‘Atom By Atom’ this new release sees Klaxons return to their euphoric, electro post-punk best.
Recorded in bursts with a regular rotation of producer friends, time was spent with Erol Alkan, Gorgon City, Tom Rowlands (Chemical Brothers) and electro-clash godfather James Murphy. Input from all remains, but with the tracks being revisited many times, the final record is a mélange of all producers, fed through the filter of the three Klaxons.
When discussing ‘Love Frequency’ lead singer Jamie Reynolds states “This record is very much about the present, an emotionally honest album about technological and personal progression.”
Back when they started, Klaxons aimed to create a trilogy of records. One based in the future, one in the past, and one in the present. ‘Love Frequency’ sets out to fulfill this promise.
In 2007 the bands Mercury Music Prize winning debut ‘Myths Of The Near Future’ exploded with a kaleidoscope of cosmic references and futuristic imagery, whilst 2010’s sophomore effort ‘Surfing The Void’ moved back to focus on guitar music from the past. Now ‘Love Frequency’ is in step with the more fascinating sounds buzzing around at the moment, from ‘Yeezus’ to Jon Hopkins to Dixon and Ame.
This new stylistic focus has gained praise from the likes of Consequences Of Sound who describe the album as possessing ‘a new sense of calm introspection’, stating ‘The underlying messages are profound… With the assistance of English production duo Gorgon City, Klaxons are set to take on the pop realm during the summer of 2014 with the easygoing vibes of “There Is No Other Time”. But once the sun sets, the power of the sentiments remain.’
