Legendary Modfather Paul Weller returns with his new ‘best of’ compilation ‘More Modern Classics’, released on Virgin Records this week.
‘More Modern Classics’ is the long awaited follow up to 1998’s ‘Modern Classics’ which showcased the first part of Weller’s highly successful solo career. The new 21 track LP features songs taken from Weller’s solo albums in over the last 15 years, including 'From The Floorboards Up', 'That Dangerous Age' and newest single ‘Brand New Toy’– released for 2014’s Record Store Day.
When discussing the album Weller states “This is just another few chapters of my life’s work, a journey which I would hope you would come with me on…..The music on this compilation is over 15 years but for me it feels like it could be 5 or 6 years. I’m rushing through like, I can’t slow it down. I’ll cling on tight and see where it ends up.”
There are few artists as prolific as Weller, who has achieved an ongoing renaissance throughout his 38 year career. Indeed the 2010 album ‘Wake Up The Nation’ gained a Mercury Music Prize nomination, whilst in the same year Weller was honoured in the Lifetime Achievement Category at the Ivor Novello Awards. ‘More Modern Classics’ pays homage to the quality and quantity of Weller’s work, compiling the finest cuts from a truly incredible career.
