Born in Belfast and raised in Derry, 17 year old Soak has spent the last two years splitting time between her studies, the local skate park, and her songwriting. Significant acclaim around 2012’s ‘Sea Creatures’ led to her being offered slots at Glastonbury and Other Voices, as well as supporting Tegan & Sara on tour. Soak has now been snapped up as the first signing to Chvrches' Goodbye Records, with her first release through the label ‘Blud’ out Monday 17th March.
‘Blud’ was written after overhearing an argument, and explores the possibilities of change. Both brooding and uplifting it’s a song rich in atmosphere and texture, and aside from the bass, Soak plays every instrument on the track herself.
Praise has come thick and fast, with the 405 describing Soak’s music as “spellbinding”, Sterogum calling it “understated and beautiful” and Noisey concluding that, “Soak’s sound has snippets of Cat Power and the delicacy of Lykke Li... well-crafted and uplifting psalms.”
