Mahmood wins at the Sanremo festival 2019

The Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) is proud to announce the victory of Mahmood at the 69th edition of the Sanremo festival with the song 'Soldi', co-written by Mahmood, together with Dardust and Charlie Charles.

Alessandro Mahmoud, aka Mahmood, is a talented writer and artist, born in Milan in 1992 to an Italian mother and an Egyptian father.

In 2016 he participated at Sanremo young contest with the song Dimentica.

In 2017 came two important collaborations: the first one with Fabri Fibra - with whom he writes and duets in the song ‘Luna’ (produced by Marz) published in Fenomeno - Masterchef EP - and the second one with Michele Bravi, his co-writer for Presi Male, featured in the re-edition of the album Anime di Carta.

In the same year two singles, ‘Uramaki’ and ‘Pesos’, were also released and presented at the Wind Summer Festival.

On 21st September 2018, he published his first EP, Gioventù Bruciata for Island Records where he developed his sound in the songs produced by Ceri, MUUT and Katoo. In this EP, the song ‘Anni ’90’ contains an extraordinary feature with Fabri Fibra, with whom Mahmood collaborates again following Luna. ‘Uramaki’ and ‘West Asia’ are snapshots of the end of a relationship, which flows between purity, taste for challenge, nostalgia and pride, regret, rejection and desire. In the last song, ‘Mai Figlio Unico,’ released with Gioventù Bruciata, the themes of his life converge together.

As a writer, Mahmood wrote ‘Nero Bali’ with Dario Faini for the artists Elodie and Michele Bravi, released during the summer 2018 and certified Platinum record. Furthermore, he has co-written with Marco Mengoni and three other writers for Mengoni’s new album Atlantico (also a certified Platinum record) including the duet with Tom Walker, ‘Hola (I say).’

At the end of November last year, ‘Doppio Whiskey’ was released – the unedited track by Gue’ Pequeno, featuring Mahmood. The track is part of the Sinatra soundtrack, the rapper’s three episode series broadcasted exclusively on TIMVISION.

With ‘Gioventù Bruciata’ - title track of his EP released on November 30th - Mahmood won the second evening of Sanremo Giovani 2018 (Sanremo young contest), he also won the Critics Award and became champion at the Sanremo Festival 2019.

‘Soldi’ is the track that led him to the victory of the 69th edition of the Sanremo festival. Co-written by Mahmood, Dardust and Charlie Charles, the song is currently at No. 1 on the Earone, Apple Music, iTunes and Spotify charts (# 40 in the global chart of Spotify) with more than 1,500,000 streams in 24 hours!
Mahmood will be representing Italy at the Eurovision song contest 2019, to be held in Tel Aviv in May.
