Griff nominated for The Ivors Rising Star Award

Griff nominated for The Ivors Rising Star Award

Griff has been announced as one of five nominees for The Ivors Academy’s new Rising Star Award, in association with Apple Music.

Nominated alongside a host of new songwriters, Griff receives the nomination following a recent feature on Music Week’s On The Radar, and being added to BBC Radio 1’s Best New Pop playlist.

The Rising Star Award was created to help discover and elevate new songwriters in the UK & Ireland. Public submissions for the Rising Star Award opened last year, resulting in the most applications for any category in Ivors history. The Academy reported the 60% of entries were made by female musicians.

As part of a new scheme with Apple, all nominees receive a year-long mentorship from an Academy member. The mentors are: Ivor Award-winning composers Anna Meredith and David Arnold, plus former Music Week cover stars Fraser T Smith, Camille ‘Kamille’ Purcell and Nile Rodgers.

The nominees will also receive Logic Pro X and GarageBand workshops, along with support from Apple’s Music Publishing division.

Griff’s mentor, Camille ‘Kamille’ Purcell said: “Feeling part of a musical community is such a strong catalyst for having the confidence to really explore where your music can take you. This group of nominees offer such an interesting mix of style, genres and expressions, it’s really exciting to be a part of their journey.”

This year’s Ivors nominations will be announced on Monday, July 20. Winners across all categories will be announced on Wednesday, September 20.
