Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), in collaboration with dance music publisher Organized Chaos, announced it has signed prolific Xenomania songwriter Tim Powell to an exclusive, global publishing agreement.
The deal will see Powell working closely alongside Organized Chaos co-founders, Adam Griffin and Robert Davies, as the brand continues its rapid growth alongside that of its record label and artist management agency Perfect Havoc, fuelled by three UK top 10s and platinum certified records with Joel Corry - Sorry (no. 8), Lonely (no. 4), and Head & Heart (no. 1).
Powell’s extensive list of credits over a 14-year period as a former key member of the writing and production powerhouse, Xenomania, include the hit singles ‘Hole in the Head’ and ‘Round Round’ by Sugababes, ‘Call the Shots’ by Girls Aloud, and ‘Love etc.’ by Pet Shop Boys. Working independently since 2010, Powell’s rich vein of form continue with further hit credits, co-writing on Paloma Faith’s ‘Picking Up the Pieces’, with Saint Etienne for their album ‘Words & Music’, and with Little Mix on ‘Change Your Life’ from their debut album, DNA. More recently Powell has veered into clubland with cuts including MK’s ‘Piece Of Me’ and Kideko’s ‘Dum Dum’ as well as tracks with the likes of Eli Brown, Adelphi Music Factory, Icarus, Sammy Porter, Friction and others.
Organized Chaos co-founder Adam Griffin said, “We first worked remotely via an arranged session with Tobtok at Tim's studio in Brighton. Our producer came back with a smile on his face, a superb track [This Town], and was full of compliments. Tim’s qualities where instant to see. He’s a hugely talented producer, writer and a multi-instrumentalist and a hardworking guy. We are over the moon to have such an experienced and successful pro as part of the Perfect Havoc/Organized Chaos family. Alongside the team at Universal Music Publishing and Tim’s great manager Jonny Martin of the Starwood Group, we are very confident we can assist Tim in adding to his list of amazing cuts and hit records.”
Powell said: “I’m so excited to be joining UMPG and Adam and Rob’s Organized Chaos family. We share a maverick, independent approach to pop and dance, and I know we can build on both our recent successes.”
Dougie Bruce, UMPG Senior A&R Director said: “We are delighted to bring Tim into the UMPG/Organised Chaos family. From our early discussions, it was clear Tim and Jonny have been single minded in their approach to establishing Tim amongst the dance and pop worlds combined. We have already had several successes and look forward to helping Tim deliver many more in the coming years.”
UMPG, in collaboration with Organized Chaos, also adds PS1 ‘Fake Friends’ to its publishing roster, a summer hit for Perfect Havoc which peaked at no.19 in the Official Singles Chart in June 2020 and is certified Silver.
