At the 2016 American Music Awards, Selena Gomez’s heartfelt, inspiring speech stole the show when she accepted her Favorite Female Artist Pop/Rock award. "I don't want to see your bodies on Instagram. I want to see what's in here…” she said while pointing to her heart. “If you are broken, you do not have to stay broken.” UMPG applauds her for her inspiring words.

Gomez was just one of many Universal Music Publishing Group songwriters who took home major AMA awards. Ariana Grande won Artist Of The Year.  Justin Bieber scored four awards including Video Of The Year (“Sorry”), Favorite Male Artist Pop/Rock, Favorite Album (Purpose) and Favorite Song (“Love Yourself”). Chris Brown received Favorite Male Artist Soul/ R&B. Adele was crowned Favorite Artist Adult Contemporary, and CCMG’s Hillsong United won Favorite Artist Contemporary Inspirational. Prince’s Purple Rain received The Top Soundtrack award, which was accepted by his sister Tyka Nelson, who also gave a moving tribute to the icon.
