Rupert Blackman

Rupert Blackman is an English singer/songwriter. He graduated in Music Production from Leeds College of Music in 2007, following which he decided to move to The Netherlands.

Rupert spent his first year or so in the lowlands writing a lot, cutting demos, collaborating with an artist development company and busking on the streets of Amsterdam. Like many before him, Rupert had his first real break after being spotted performing on the streets. First by Anouk (Holland's favorite female artist) which lead to him being invited as support for her upcoming theatre tour, which in turn spread his name throughout the industry. Secondly, some months later, he was spotted by the head of promotion at PIAS records which subsequently led to Rupert signing a recording deal with them.

The 'Night and Day' EP was released in September 2012 [PIAS] the single of which hit number 3 in the iTunes singles charts in Holland, after a live performance on the national TV show 'De Wereld Draait Door'. More TV and radio followed in the run up to Rupert's debut album release 'The Lights of Home' [PIAS] in March 2013. This album peaked at number 32 in the physical CD charts and hit the top 10 in the iTunes albums chart.

Since the album release, Rupert has been writing his second album with a host of international writers in Holland, London and Sweden and in December 2013 signed with Universal Music Publishing Group.

Rupert also writes for others. Within the Netherlands, he has written with artists such as Alain Clark, Ben Saunders & Mainstreet. Internationally Rupert has collaborated with the writers behind P!nk, Justin Timberlake, Backstreet Boys, Vanessa Amorosi, Jessica Simpson, Esmee Denters, Ronan Keating, Natalie Imbruglia, Matt Cardle, Paloma Faith, Nicky Romero & The Prodigy.
