Deap Vally release their debut album ‘Sistrionix’ on 24th June on Island / Communion Records.
Recorded with producer Lars Stalfors (The Mars Volta) in the band’s hometown Los Angeles, the album features 11 songs of visceral, heart-churning rock ‘n’ roll.
“I think people could look at us and make one assumption, and then when they see us play, that assumption will be shattered,” says Julie Edwards, Deap Vally’s drummer. “And that’s the beauty of it.”
Lindsey Troy adds, “I feel like with Deap Vally we are unstoppable – we are so driven, full throttle, it’s undeniable. We really believe in what we represent as a band. And what we represent I feel is like post-post-post feminism.”
Many of the songs on this record are from a powerfully female perspective — from dealing with sleazy men in ‘Creep Life’ to the glorious two-fingered defiance of ‘Gonna Make My Own Money’ – although there are gentler songs here too, songs about relationship dynamics and heartbreak.
The album has won glowing reviews from The Guardian (4 stars), NME (8/10) and The Independent ("You’ll want to stick it on immediate repeat.") Line of Best Fit sum up ‘Sistrionix’ nicely in their Album of The Week review, proclaiming; “Hell yes to this record, hell yes to two hot tin-roof LA women who kick ass and don’t give a toss about much else but rockin’ and rollin’. And if this is what hell sounds like, I wanna be condemned.”
