‘Elvis Costello: Mystery Dance’ is the first-ever documentary portrait of one of the greatest musicians and songwriters of our time. Directed by award winning documentary maker Mark Kidel, the hour long version will be shown on BBC 4 on Friday 8th November at 9pm, with the feature-length version on Saturday 9th November at 11.50pm.
The film is a definitive portrait of a major music icon – beginning from his childhood and interviewing Elvis in Liverpool, London and New York, revisiting the places he grew up. The main interview was shot over two days at the Avatar Studios in New York, and finds him talking for the first time at great length about his career, songwriting and music. The film focuses in particular on his collaborations with Paul McCartney, Burt Bacharach and Allen Toussaint, and McCartney and Toussaint are both contributors to the film.
