Jay Weathers

Hackney, Born & Raised Jay Weathers is no stranger to the world of production and songwriting, amassing a string of credits with some of the industry’s most coveted artists; Stormzy, Mabel, Burna Boy, Rudimental & Mahalia to name a few.

Born to Nigerian-Jamaican parents, some of Jay’s earliest memories were watching his parents blast music on their record player. “I grew up listening to Hip-Hop, R&B, Garage and Afrobeats - it’s most definitely these fusions of sounds that have influenced my music”. At around ten years old, he stumbled across his older brother’s old keyboard and decided to teach himself the piano. “I guess you could say that was when I first started writing music… I would teach myself different chords and naturally started putting melodies to them… Whether they were good or not is a different story!”. After being introduced to production software by a family friend as a teenager, Jay started to study diligently after school and work, honing his craft as a music producer.

Fast forward a few years - after a lot of hard work and perseverance - Jay started to build a solid reputation within a circle of artists from Hackney. This led to an introduction to afroswing artist Not3s - fresh off the success of his breakthrough singles ‘Addison Lee’ and ‘Aladdin’. The rest is history. ‘My Lover’ was made within a couple hours of meeting and was swiftly made into a single. The single spent a staggering thirty-one weeks on the chart, went platinum within six months and has now sold nearly one million copies. It’s clear that Jay was having his own breakthrough moment.

It was the success of this single that catapulted Jay’s profile as a music producer. The demand for him across the industry escalated and a slew of collaborations followed suit; Mr Eazi’s standout track ‘Miss You Bad (feat. Burna Boy)’, Mahalia’s sultry ‘He’s Mine’, WSTRN’s ‘Medusa (feat. Unknown T)’ and Darkoo’s ‘Kryptonite’ just some of his highlights. Perhaps his most important accolade to date, however, is his work on Stormzy’s No.1 album ‘Heavy Is The Head’ and No.1 single ‘Own It (feat. Ed Sheeran & Burna Boy)’. “I met Stormzy in early 2018 after I heard he wanted to work with me. He was starting to work on his album and the first song we actually made together (‘Rainfall’) ended up going on it pretty quickly… I was excited to have just one track with him coming out, so it was pretty mad for me ending up with four productions on the album, three of which became singles (‘Own It, ‘Superheroes’ & ‘Rainfall’)”. The sky's the limit for Jay Weathers and there is no denying that he is a force to be reckoned with.
